Chaudhary elected president of Lunkarandas-Gangadevi Chaudhary Sahityakala Mandir

KATHMANDU: The annual general meeting (AGM) of Lunkarandas-Gangadevi Chaudhary Sahityakala Mandir on Wednesday elected new executive committee members under the chairmanship of Megha Chaudhary, daughter of senior lyricist and eminent littérateur Basant Chaudhary.

The Sahityakala Mandir has been active in the field of Nepali song, music and literature for the past 30 years.

The AGM held in Thapathali, Kathmandu elected senior artist Harihar Sharma as vice-president of the new executive committee for the next four-year term. Likewise, lyricist and journalist Raman Ghimire has been elected as the general secretary and Manish Kumar Khemka as the treasurer

Similarly, Prof Dr Usha Thakur, Narayan Bhakta Shrestha (Rayan), Rajendra Salabh have been elected as executive committee members.

The new executive committee members assumed office on Thursday.

Senior lyricist and eminent littérateur Chaudhary is the patron of Sahityakala Mandir, established in the year 2051 in the name of Lunkarandas, the founder of Nepal's leading and largest industrial establishment Chaudhary Group, and his wife Gangadevi Chaudhary.

Chaudhary has been president of the Sahityakala Mandir for a long time. Megha Chaudhary, her only daughter and Chairperson of Basant Chaudhary Foundation (BCF) has got the responsibility of this institution.

Basant Chaudhary, while speaking at the opening session of the AGM, recalled that he was incharge of Sahityakala Mandir when he was 35 years old and expressed his happiness to hand over the responsibility to his  daughter Megha. "My daughter has better leadership skills than me." He said, "Like a beautiful rose that spreads fragrance, I believe that my daughter will also give new heights to this institution with her abilities."

He recalled that during the period of 30 years, Sahityakala Mandir honoured 10 dozen great authors and said that there is no other organisation like this in the field of literature and art in Nepal.

Chaudhary announced that the scope of work of the organisation will be expanded in the fields of literature, music, art, journalism, health and social service.

Senior artist Harihar Sharma said that Sahityakala Mandir has made a special contribution to the promotion of Nepali literature and music at the global level.

The AGM passed the agenda of changing the name of Sahityakala Mandir and moving forward with a larger purpose.

The newly elected president of Sahityakala Mandir, Megha, apprised the meeting of the proposal to amend the statute has also been passed.

The AGM also passed the annual report for the fiscal year 2022/23 and the auditor's report presented by Raman Ghimire.
