Saudi Arabia to cooperate in Nepal's infrastructure and transport sector

A A- A+

KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nepal, Saad Nasser Abdullah Abu Haimed, held a meeting on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two touched on issues concerning infrastructure development and bilateral partnership in development projects.

Terming Saudi Arabia as one of the major employment destinations for Nepalis, Minister Jwala proposed Saudi Arabia's partnership in the development of Nepal’s infrastructure and transport sector.

The minister said around 400,000 Nepalis are currently engaged in the labour market in Saudi Arabia.

"Nepal is being graduated from the category of the least developed country by 2026," the Minister informed the Saudi Arabian envoy, insisting on further investment and bilateral cooperation in Nepal's infrastructure industry for the sustainability of such graduation.

In response, the Saudi Arabian ambassador said they were ready to cooperate with Nepal in the infrastructure and transport sector, requesting Nepal to present a substantive proposal towards that end.

During the meeting, Minister Jwala told the ambassador that Nepal had already decided to support Saudi Arabia's candidacy for hosting World Expo- 2030.
