KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the government is committed to formulating and implementing long-term policies and programmes on research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and on integrating the related national system.
In his message of best wishes on the occasion of National Science Day today, PM Dahal reiterated that the government is at the stage of formulating the necessary bills and legislation for the promotion of research, innovation and entrepreneurship. These legislations will be tabled in parliament soon, he added.
"The expected outcome will be achieved after preparing acts, regulations and directives for the promotion and regulation of this sector and ensuring regular budget allocation," the Prime Minister said and called on the provincial and local governments to invest in this sector.
The 11th National Science Day is being marked throughout the country today. The theme of the Day this year is 'Science Literacy and Entrepreneurship: Foundation for Strong Economy.'
On the occasion, PM Dahal said that we can learn from the experience of the developed countries so that a culture of entrepreneurship will be developed among the people with the help of scientific conduct and through this very culture the foundation for the country's economy could be built.
He said the incorporation in the development-related policy of the provision of promoting scientific study and investment in research, discovery, innovation and development of science and technology, and the protection of scientific, technical, intellectual and specialist talents clearly shows that the State is sensitive on the importance of the science and technology, the innovation sectors and the human resources in this sector.
The prime minister asserted that budget has also been allocated for programmes such as the innovation and invention fund, and startup fund centred on scientists, researchers, innovators and youths who have the desire to start entrepreneurship within the country itself.
"Empowerment and strengthening of existing structures in the science, technology and innovation sector is equally necessary. It is the long-term policy of the Government of Nepal to prepare the outline for restructuring of such organisations and implementing the same, by forming a high-level commission," he further added.
