
KATHMANDU: An aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation that left for Israel this morning to bring back Nepalis stranded there is scheduled to return to Kathmandu at 9:00 pm today.
The national flag carrier took off for Israel at 3:30 am today.
Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud left for Israel on the same flight for diplomatic coordination for the rescue of Nepalis from Israel. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Sewa Lamsal said a 250-seat wide-body aircraft left for Israel to bring Nepalis who want to return home.
As many as 10 Nepali students were killed and some others injured in the attack by Hamas group militants in the southern part of Israel on Saturday. The whereabouts of a Nepali student who went missing since the attack is still unknown.
The Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel has been collecting, through an online registration system, the names of Nepalis who want to be relocated or rescued to safe places and who want to return home.
Delay in repatriation of bodies
Meanwhile, the process of repatriating the bodies of 10 Nepalis killed in Israel will take time as the legal process of handing over the bodies has not been completed yet.
Israel formally declared war on Sunday and gave the green light for “significant military steps” to retaliate against Hamas for the surprise attack a day earlier.
MoFA Spokesperson Lamsal said the bodies will be brought to Nepal as soon as possible after the Israeli government complete all the legal processes including the postmortem examination.
