CHITWAN: Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat has said the country's economy is improving.

Talking to journalists in Chitwan on Monday, Minister Mahat said that the economy has started to become vibrant.

He mentioned that overall remittance has increased by 30% and stated that the economy is slowly returning to the rhythm. "The problems of businesspersons who are in trouble are solved as remittance and number of foreign tourists coming to Nepal have increased," he said and added,  "Tourism professionals are excited due to the increase in the number of tourists." The finance minister said that it would take some time for the economy to improve.

He said that many policy decisions have been made for the improvement of the economy. He also asserted that some problems have appeared in the economy since the investments made from those decisions take time to yield returns. He said the government is trying to provide relief in matters such as interest and time extension for those who have not got results even after taking loans and investing in the right places.

In a different context, Finance Minister Mahat clarified that the government has not started any process for gravel and sand mining in Chure range. However, he said the government should study the possibilities of sand mining and take advantage by exporting minerals in such a way that the environment is not damaged from its consumption.
