A A- A+

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) President Rajendra Malla has suggested the government and the private sector should work together for the economic stability of the country.

Addressing the sixth general assembly and third convention of the Bhaktapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, NCC President Malla said, "Homework should be done for the sustainable development of the economy and weaknesses on the part of the government should be corrected. The private sector should also be liberal when it comes to taxes."

Although economic indicators in the country have been positive recently, private sector and the general public have not been able to realise it, he mentioned, and said, it is time to review the reasons for not being able to create an industrial and business environment in the country.

He said the government should tighten its grip on recurrent expenditure and remarked, "It is not positive for the country to be in a situation where they have to take loans and spend money. It is necessary to maintain expenditure transparency."

Malla said that although ambitious programmes were announced in the budget, the implementation plan could not be effective. He opined that with the change of government, policies also change and the economy becomes unstable and stated that small and medium industries are the most affected by the recent problems in the economy.

In another context, NCC President Malla emphasized that Bhaktapur should be established as a hub for international tourist attractions.
