KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Daayitwa signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research regarding varied topics related to the economy and exchange knowledge to promote economic development and prosperity. This agreement opens a wider channel for youth engagement for evidence-based policy decisions, creates a platform to build state capabilities for effective policy implementation, and fosters collaboration through governance innovation for inclusive economic growth.
Tirtha Raj Baral, Under Secretary at Economic Policy Analysis Division (EPAD) of MoF, and Susit Dhakal, Executive Director of Daayitwa signed the MoU in the presence of EPAD Joint Secretary Baburam Subedi, Daayitwa Chairperson Pukar Malla along with other MoF officials and Daayitwa representatives.
The agreement is expected to create opportunities for an exchange of knowledge between MoF and youth and policy scholars through platforms like the Daayitwa Nepal Public Policy Fellowship (DNPPF).
Additionally, the collaboration also institutes possibilities of in-depth research, study, and discussions on MoF’s priority areas. The agreement also mentions the provision of capacity-building training through the Public Finance Training Centre.
Addressing the ceremony, EPAD Joint Secretary Subedi said, “The Ministry of Finance and Daayitwa have reached an understanding for a global knowledge exchange, discussion, and interaction on topics pertinent to the economy and economic policies which makes me happy. In the ever-changing global scenario, I believe through discussions and interaction based on innovative perspectives and knowledge on varied issues related to the economy, the MoU will serve as a basis in policy matters to help grow Nepal’s economy.”
Reflecting on the MoU signing, Revenue Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire, at the National Governance Symposium held from December 12 to 13 at Hotel Himalaya said, “The MoU has opened many avenues for collaboration. The MoF is committed to hearing young people and engaging with multiple stakeholders to institutionalise youth voices in policy-making and drive economic growth.”
Daayitwa Executive Director Dhakal said, "This marks an important milestone for Nepali youths, academics, and researchers to bolster innovation-led economic growth in Nepal. This partnership will create a strong foundation for inclusive prosperity through collaboration between the government and the community."
