KATHMANDU: The Federation of Business and Professional Women Nepal (FBPWN) conducted a three-day orientation training to enhance the capacity of local government officials and stakeholders of Jumla and Nuwakot districts.
Chairpersons, chief administrative officers, heads of agriculture and women development branches, officials of local women cooperatives, and local social administrators of Guthichaur Rural Municipality in Jumla, as well as Kispang Rural Municipality of Nuwakot district, participated in the training. The training was conducted at the TEWA organisation’s Deepyogini Centre in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur from 14 to 16 December.
The three-day training, provided for local government officials, social mobilisers, and local cooperative managers, aimed to promote gender justice, governance, and women empowerment. It was conducted under the Advancing Women in Agroforestry Business Enterprise programme with the support of the DFAT/ANCP/ASSI SI Aid Project.
This training aimed to enhance the capacity of local government officials and social operators in gender issues and empowerment, good governance, and gender budgeting. Discussions held in coordination with TEWA Founder Rita Thapa focused on gender issues and gender justice, while Dr Pradhan made a presentation on graduation from the Least Developed Country and Care Economy.
Sangram Singh Lama made a presentation on the topic ‘Peace’, Susan Risal, CEO of Nagarik Aawaz, on Citizen Voice and Good Governance, Gender Planning and Gender Budgeting. Suchita Pyakuryal, Director of the Centre for Governance & Academic Affairs, focused on the decisive role of women in public administration for good governance.
The training witnessed the enthusiastic involvement of the participants. At the inaugural session, FBPWN General Secretary Mangala Karanjit welcomed the chief guest, House of Representatives (HoR) member Kantika Sijuwal, Guthichaur RM chairperson, and Kispang RM Vice-Chairperson, along with participants from both rural municipalities.
Similarly, the closing session was held under the chairmanship of FBPWN President Ambica Shrestha. Addressing the session, she stressed the role of local government in the overall development and asked local representatives to look at their efforts from a gender perspective. She emphasised the creative role of local bodies in the formulation and implementation of local-level policies to support the local economy and praised the diligence and initiative of the local government officials in transforming the local community for the prosperity of Nepal. She opined that youth power and its mobilisation will play an important role in carrying out the responsibility of inclusion and building a strong society at the local level.
