Martyrs Day: PM Dahal honours martyrs, commits to fulfilling their dreams

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal stated that today is a day to commit to completing the remaining tasks of the revolution, bearing in mind the dreams and dedication of the martyrs. 

At a programme held at the Martyrs Memorial, Lainchaur, on the occasion of the Martyrs Day, PM Dahal said, "The martyrs have made sacrifices for the political, economic, social and cultural transformation of Nepali society, and for the establishment of inclusive democracy."

He mentioned that the martyrs who gave their lives in the struggle for nationality, people's democracy and livelihood will continue to inspire us in the past, present and future. He paid tribute to the martyrs and urged everyone to work diligently to realise the martyrs' dreams.

On the occasion, PM Dahal remembered and honoured martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand Thakur, Ganga Lal Shrestha, and others who sacrificed their lives in 1997 BS to overthrow the Rana oligarchy and establish democracy in the country.

He also expressed his respect to all the missing fighters and said, "I hope for the quick recovery and long life of the injured fighters."

The 16th of the Nepali month Magh is observed as Martyrs Day every year.
