Inclusive information policy priority of govt: PM Dahal

GANDAKI: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stated that an inclusive and democratic information and communications policy is the government's priority. 

Speaking at the Freedom Fighter Dayashankar Palikhe Memorial Journalism Award ceremony, organised by Federation of Nepali Journalists in Pokhara, Kaski, PM Dahal emphasised that the government prioritises an inclusive ICT policy to broaden access to mass media for all classes, regions, castes, languages, and communities.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the government's policy is to safeguard and enhance the media as a national service-oriented industry. He stressed that the professional and institutional development of the media will be pursued for the advancement and benefit of tmedia and media workers.

He also pledged to ensure the construction of necessary structures and infrastructure, including policies, to fully guarantee freedom of thought and expression, the right to information, and press freedom.

He mentioned that efforts are underway to initiate international flights to and from Pokhara International Airport, with initiatives being taken with both neighbouring countries.

Praising the contributions of freedom fighter Dayashankar Palikhe, he noted that the award established in his memory has sent a positive message not only in Pokhara but across the country.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal presented the Freedom Fighter Dayashankar Palikhe Memorial Journalism Award to Dipendra Shrestha and posthumously to Tribhuvan Poudel.
