
KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has a plan to operate direct flights from Bhairahawa to Hong Kong.
The national flag carrier which is presently conducting direct flights to Hong Kong from Kathmandu is making preparations to operate direct flights to Hong Kong from Bhairahawa also with the goal of bringing a maximum number of tourists through air connectivity between Hong Kong and Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
NAC has also planned to operate flights from Bhairahawa to New Delhi, India, soon. NAC spokesperson Ramesh Poudel said the final preparations are being made to operate direct flights from Bhairahawa to Hong Kong and New Delhi.
"We have made preparation for the Bhairahawa-Hong Kong flights. It will be finalised in a day or two. We also plan to expand flight to New Delhi, India," he said.
According to spokesperson Poudel, ticket bookings will be opened within 15 days from now for flights to both Hong Kong and New Delhi. Nepal Airlines is planning to operate flights to more destinations including Dubai and Doha.
Nepal Airlines is operating two flights a week to Hong Kong from Kathmandu at present and daily two flights to New Delhi.
Poudel said the NAC has yet to finalise the number of flights that will be operated to these destinations from Bhairahawa.
Nepal Airlines has been operating regular flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhirahawa since June 12. It has been operating flights on Bhairahawa-Malaysia and Malaysia-Bhairahawa-Kathmandu routes.
GBIA came into commercial operation on May 16, 2022. Jazeera Airways had been operating flights to this airport since then but has suspended flights lately citing technical reasons.
