Prez Paudel presents government's policies and programmes for FY 2025/26

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel presented the government’s policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2025/26 at a joint session of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly of the Federal Parliament today.  

The joint session convened at 3:00 pm.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli handed a copy of the document outlining the government's policies and programmes to President Paudel.  

Prior to this, the Head of State was welcomed at the Federal Parliament Building by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayana Prasad Dahal, and Federal Parliament Secretariat Secretary-General Padma Prasad Pandey.  

Upon arrival at the Federal Parliament Building, a contingent of the Nepali Army (NA) presented a guard of honour to the President, who also serves as the Supreme Commander of the NA.  

The session was attended by the Vice President, former Prime Ministers, former Speakers, heads and representatives of constitutional bodies, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions in Kathmandu, and delegates from the private sector.

Public Service Broadcasting outlets, including Nepal Television and Radio Nepal, along with other media houses, provided live coverage of the event.  

The Federal Parliament Building was decorated with the national flag and festoons. The Secretariat issued special passes and invitations to over 400 guests for the presentation of the government's policies and programmes.  

As per Article 95 of the Constitution, the President may address a meeting of either House or a joint sitting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament and summon members for that purpose. The President is required to address the first session following a general election for the House of Representatives and a joint sitting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament at the start of each year.  

The parliament will conduct preliminary discussions on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill on May 13. According to the constitutional calendar, the Finance Minister shall present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year before a joint session of the Federal Parliament on May 28.
