Consumer price inflation stood at 3.39 pc in mid-April: NRB

KATHMANDU: Year-on-year (y-o-y) consumer price inflation in Nepal stood at 3.39% in mid-April 2025 compared to 4.61% a year ago, according to the latest macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Sunday. 

During the review month, inflation in the food and beverage category was 2.45% while inflation in non-food and services reached 3.90%. In the corresponding month of the previous year, the price indices for these groups had increased by 5.22% and 4.20% respectively.

Under the food and beverage category, the y-o-y price index for the ghee and oil sub-category increased by 11.63%, for fruit by 9.07%, for pulses and legumes by 6.58% and for non-alcoholic drinks by 5.16%, while the price index for the vegetable sub-category decreased by 5.24%, for spices by 2.32% and for meat and fish by 0.89%.

Under the non-food and services category, the y-o-y price index for the miscellaneous goods and services sub-category increased by 8.69%, for clothes and footwear by 7.01%, for alcoholic drinks by 6.07%, for furnishing and household equipment by 5.59% and for tobacco products by 4.83%.

During the review month, the y-o-y price index in rural areas increased by 3.78% while in urban areas it rose by 3.25%.

Based on provinces, during the review month, y-o-y consumer price inflation was 4.91% in Koshi Province, 3.59% in Madhesh Province, 2.80% in Bagmati Province, 2.83% in Gandaki Province, 3.11% in Lumbini Province, 3.11% in Karnali Province and 3.51% in Sudurpashchim Province.

In the review month, y-o-y consumer price inflation in Kathmandu Valley increased by 2.95%, in Tarai by 3.31%, in Hill region by 3.46% and in Mountain region by 4.47%.
