KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his support for appointing a qualified individual to the vacant post of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), prioritising merit over personal connections.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Former Planners Forum, Nepal, on Thursday, Oli stated, "I do not have anyone close to me to nominate for the role of NRB Governor. We should appoint capable individuals based on meritocracy. If there are people who can perform well, it will be beneficial for the country. I do not want anyone referred to as ‘my person.’ I am the Prime Minister, but I am not alone in government. Therefore, I prioritise meritocracy as much as possible."
He clarified that competent individuals had been appointed as chairs and members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on Disappeared Persons based on recommendations received from the relevant committee.
PM Oli stressed that, apart from the chairman of one commission, whom he had previously known in his capacity as chief secretary, he had no personal affiliation with any other officials.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the organisation of former planners would serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, ensuring its sustainability by avoiding personality clashes.
