
KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Dr Biswo Nath Poudel as the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
The Council of Ministers, in a meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, on Tuesday evening, decided to appoint economist Poudel as the Governor of the central bank, government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, informed the media.
"Based on the recommendation of the recommendation committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel, a decision was made to appoint economist Poudel as the NRB Governor," said Minister Gurung.
He further stated that the committee had shortlisted three candidates, including Dr Poudel, former Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission; Neelam Dhungana Timsina, Acting Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank; and former Secretary Dr Dinesh Bhattarai.
