KATHMANDU: Chinese tech giant Huawei announced the debut of its first personal computer powered by HarmonyOS at an event held in Chengdu, south-west China's Sichuan Province, on Monday.
The company's press statement said that the new PC represents a major breakthrough in the development of an independent, homegrown operating system and has been built from the ground up over five years. More than 10,000 engineers contributed to its development, and the device is supported by over 2,700 core patents.
The statement highlights the high-performance capabilities of the HarmonyOS PC. It is designed to handle demanding tasks efficiently – for example, opening a 1GB, 100-page presentation file in just one second, even when multiple applications are running concurrently. In addition to its performance, the system integrates advanced artificial intelligence and intelligent interaction features. At launch, the device supports over 1,000 ecosystem applications, with plans to expand this figure to more than 2,000 by the end of the year.
Furthermore, alongside the HarmonyOS PC, Huawei introduced the MateBook Fold, a foldable-screen device that combines a large 18-inch display with the portability of a compact 13-inch form factor. This launch underscores Huawei’s commitment to delivering a seamless and unified digital experience across different device categories.
