DAMAULI: Former Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and Nepali Congress Spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat has stated that the development of the energy sector is essential for the country's economic prosperity.
During an on-site inspection of the 140MW under-construction Tanahun Hydropower Project this morning, he stressed the need to maximise the utilisation of the country's water resources to drive national progress.
Mahat opined that the country could achieve prosperity by selling electricity and that industrial development depends on energy. He urged the timely completion of the hydropower project to make Nepal self-reliant in energy.
He also highlighted the importance of electric vehicles in reducing the import of petroleum products. NC leader Mahat further inspected the project's powerhouse.
On the occasion, Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari briefed the former energy minister on the progress made so far.
