Kathmandu: Nepal and Sri Lanka have officially launched the Nepal–Sri Lanka ICT Alliance 2025, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening digital cooperation and positioning both countries as rising tech hubs in South Asia.
The alliance was initiated by Chiranjibi Adhikari, Senior Vice President of Nepal’s CAN Federation, and formally presented to Chameera Munasinghe, Chargé d’Affaires at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu. The announcement also featured academic input from Omkar Basnet, highlighting strong educational backing.
Centred on nine strategic pillars, the partnership focuses on key areas such as AI, fintech, health tech, cybersecurity, and digital talent development. A joint business council involving SLASSCOM and ICTA Sri Lanka will support business matchmaking and policy alignment.
Key initiatives include joint startup incubation, venture capital collaboration, and mutual recognition of IT training, promoting cross-border employment and innovation. The alliance also covers outsourcing, talent exchange, and cybersecurity cooperation between npCert and Sri Lanka CERT.
Plans are underway for a joint ICT Innovation Fund and university partnerships to facilitate research and exchanges in emerging technologies like blockchain, AI, and data analytics.
Long-term, the alliance aims to develop a Nepal–Sri Lanka Digital Corridor, integrating digital infrastructure and cloud platforms to enhance regional connectivity.
