Hong Kong: The Cathay Group has reached a historic milestone in its nearly 80-year journey, expanding its global passenger network to 100 destinations across Cathay Pacific and HK Express. The achievement was celebrated at a high-profile reception in Hong Kong, reaffirming the Group’s role in cementing the city’s position as a premier international aviation hub.
The announcement comes amid Cathay’s post-pandemic resurgence and network rebuild, with 30 new destinations added in the past two years alone, 18 of them in 2025. New routes include Brussels, Rome, Dallas Fort Worth, and Adelaide, reflecting the airline’s strategic investment in both long-haul and regional connectivity.
Resilient Recovery and Record Growth
From flying just 58 passengers in a single day at the height of the pandemic in March 2022, Cathay now carries over 100,000 passengers daily. This transformation underscores the company’s determination and the resilience of Hong Kong’s aviation sector.
“Achieving 100 destinations ahead of schedule is a powerful symbol of how far we’ve come,” said CEO Ronald Lam, who also highlighted the importance of strong partnerships with the Hong Kong SAR Government and Airport Authority in the Group’s recovery.
Chair Patrick Healy reinforced the airline’s long-term commitment with an ongoing HK$100 billion investment programme — the most ambitious in Cathay’s history — targeting new aircraft, upgraded cabin products, enhanced lounges, and digital innovations.
Summer Peak and Strategic Expansion
Cathay Pacific will operate more than 110 return flights per week to North America and close to 100 to Europe this summer. In the Southwest Pacific, it will serve eight destinations with nearly 90 return flights weekly, including a resumed service to Adelaide in November.
Meanwhile, HK Express will fly to 23 destinations in mainland China, operating over 300 return flights weekly, further reinforcing Cathay’s dominant regional presence.
Aligned with Infrastructure Growth
The milestone aligns with the commissioning of Hong Kong International Airport’s Three-Runway System, which expands capacity for both passenger and cargo traffic. Transport Secretary Mable Chan lauded the synergy between Cathay’s expansion and the airport’s development, calling it a pivotal moment for the city’s aviation future.
As the Cathay Group continues to scale up operations and invest in excellence, it remains focused on its vision of becoming one of the world’s leading service brands — while keeping Hong Kong at the heart of global air connectivity.
