KATHMANDU: The Upendra Devkota Foundation organised the second edition of Neurocon, a Neuroscience convention - “Neurocon-II, Evolving Trends in Neuroscience”, from June 16-19.

Held every two years, Neurocon invites international practitioners to showcase developments in Neuroscience. With two pre-conference days followed by a series of multi-disciplinary presentations over the next two days, Neurocon is the platform for medical professionals, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment manufacturers to convene.

The Upendra Devokota Foundation, founded in 2022, honors Dr. Devkota’s legacy of training a generation of practitioners in Neuroscience, and continues the journey of innovation that he began. He was the founder of Upendra Devkota Memorial National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences, a facility built in service to Nepal.
On June 18, at the Gala inaugurating Neurocon-II, The Upendra Devkota Award for Outstanding Services was awarded to Dr. Terence Hope for advancing Neuroscience in Nepal. The chief guest for the event, Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief, Policy Planning and Monitoring Division Ministry of Health and Population; and Achyut Wagle, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University presented the award to Dr. Hope.

In a rousing address, founding Chairperson of the Upendra Devkota Foundation, Dr. Madhu Dixit Devkota thanked the convened guests, delegates and practitioners attending this convention organised in service to science and the memory of the late Upendra Devkota. Dr. Devkota celebrated the close international collaborations fostered by this conference. She also shared her mission to procure cutting-edge medical equipment that makes surgery precise and increases the range of services provided by the hospital.
Representing Nepali neurosurgeons, guests Dr. Suraj Thulung and Dr. Sagar Koirala also briefed the audience composed of local and international doctors, nurses, and medical practitioners on the details of this conference.

Exclusive to Business 360, Dr. Madhu Dixit Devkota said, “The first Neurocon talked about the inception of Neuroscience in Nepal. Neurocon-II is a more technically advanced showcase on the evolution of neuroscience and what lies ahead. Within medicine, Neuroscience is a specialty that evolves rapidly. Nepal should not be lagging behind in chasing global developments in Neuroscience. That is my promise to my husband, Upendra Devkota. He painstakingly started Neurosurgery in Nepal. He was the only person providing care for many years.
“This conference is for networking. So, this conference is for people in Neuroscience to secure future collaborations, both in service as well as research. And, above all, this conference is for advancing sciences,” added Dr. Devkota.
