KATHMANDU: Industrialists and businesspersons in Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor, who had received assurance from Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) of increased power generation and continuous supply, are currently suffering due to multiple daily tripping incidents as the monsoon season begins.

Nanda Kishor Rathi, Senior Vice-President of Chamber of Industries Morang (CIM), stated that while the NEA is currently discussing the export of electricity produced in Nepal to India and Bangladesh, domestic industries are forced to bear the brunt of long power cuts as a result of tripping. He expressed concern that, despite repeated complaints from industrialists and businesspersons to the relevant authorities regarding daily tripping that is damaging mill machinery, wasting raw materials during production, forcing workers to remain idle and increasing production costs through generator operation, no concrete initiatives have been taken to resolve the issue.

He said that industrialists and businesspersons expecting a continuous power supply in the industrial corridor at the start of the monsoon have become increasingly frustrated by the multiple daily tripping incidents, contrary to their expectations.

In a statement issued by CIM, Rathi urged the NEA to take a sensitive approach in resolving the electricity supply problem in the long term, stating that industries incur significant financial losses due to power shortages in the dry season and tripping during the monsoon.

CIM previously lamented that, despite repeatedly drawing the NEA’s attention—with supporting data—to the economic losses faced by industries due to power supply disruptions every dry season, no concrete plan for resolution has been provided by the regulatory body.
