SINGAPORE: Singapore’s manufacturing output rose by 3.9% year-on-year in May, following a 5.9% increase in April, according to data released by the Economic Development Board on Thursday.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, overall manufacturing output dipped by 0.4% in May. However, excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew by 0.7%.
Transport engineering led the year-on-year gains among the clusters, soaring by 25.6%. Within this cluster, the aerospace segment surged by 43.6%, supported by increased production of aircraft parts and a rise in maintenance, repair and overhaul activities by commercial airlines. The marine and offshore engineering segment expanded by 5.3%, attributed to higher activity levels at shipyards.
Other clusters recording year-on-year growth included precision engineering, biomedical manufacturing, electronics and chemicals.
In contrast, the general manufacturing cluster posted a year-on-year decline.
