KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes to all citizens on the occasion of National Paddy Day, stressing the importance of modernising agriculture and achieving self-reliance in paddy production.
In his message, President Paudel highlighted the growing concern over the annual increase in rice and paddy imports, calling for the adoption of advanced food technologies and better utilisation of local labour and human capital.
He emphasised the need to end the trend of leaving farmland uncultivated and to foster a culture that respects agricultural labour. “May today’s observance encourage us to reduce imports, ensure food security, and promote respect for agricultural work by adopting climate-smart technologies in paddy cultivation,” the message read.
This year, National Paddy Day is being marked under the theme ‘Intensity in Paddy Production: Food Security and Self-Reliance’.
President Paudel also noted that the Constitution guarantees every citizen’s right to food, underlining that increased paddy production is essential to prevent food crises and realise this fundamental right.
