SEVILLE, SPAIN: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasised the need for reforms to the international financial system.

He made the remarks in his closing address as chief guest at the Civil Society Forum of the United Nations Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4).

On an official visit to Spain to attend the UN conference, PM Oli said developed countries must translate financial commitments into action.

He also urged civil society to press for development assistance, debt sustainability and reforms to the international financial system.

“You are not merely participants in the conference but catalysts and a powerful voice for change,” he said. “Nepal is advancing towards development and prosperity, bolstered by the principles of good governance, the rule of law and democracy.”

He added, “Global investment should be guided by inclusion, necessity and proportionality. I appreciate civil society’s global partnership and participation.”

Noting that civil society advocacy is crucial for people, the planet and shared responsibility, PM Oli called on organisations to lead the drive for an equitable and sustainable future, leaving no one behind.

At a separate event, he said all stakeholders must discharge shared responsibility for creating decent job opportunities through mobilising private-sector capital, promoting inclusive growth and seeking new sources of development finance.

The declaration endorsed by the Civil Society Forum will be adopted by the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
