KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel is hosting a high-level, 14-member Nepali delegation on an official visit to Israel from July 12 to 18, 2025. The programme coincides with Muni Expo 2025, the flagship annual event of the Federation of Local Governments of Israel, scheduled for July 15 to 17.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu, this marks the first time Nepal has sent a delegation comprising senior policy and planning officials from the Ministry of Urban Development, the National Planning Commission, and mayors from various municipalities to participate in a focused programme on municipal innovation and urban resilience.

Muni Expo, Israel’s largest municipal event, brings together mayors, local leaders and policy-makers from around the world. The theme for 2025, “Local Compass,” will address issues such as crisis response, local-national coordination and antisemitism.

During the event, delegates will engage with more than 150 Israeli and international companies and startups, study innovative municipal initiatives, and foster global partnerships.

Alongside participation in the Expo, the Nepali delegation will visit key sites and institutions including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv–Jaffa, Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, the Shafdan Wastewater Treatment Facility, the Municipal Innovation Centre, and the Police Station in Sderot.

These visits are aimed at offering direct exposure to Israel’s advanced urban technologies and infrastructure systems.

Delegates will also visit the site of the Nova music festival, where on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a deadly attack killing hundreds of civilians, including 10 Nepali nationals at Kibbutz Alumim. The statement noted that 50 hostages, including Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi, remain in captivity.

The visit signifies an important step forward in Nepal–Israel cooperation, particularly in sustainable urban development, capacity-building and municipal-level knowledge exchange. The Embassy of Israel expressed confidence in continued collaboration across sectors that would benefit both countries.
