Government to introduce 121 new laws in FY 2025/26

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasia has announced plans to introduce 121 new laws in the current fiscal year 2025/26.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the National Assembly’s Committee on Public Policy and Delegated Legislation, Chaurasia said his ministry has identified the necessary bills and submitted a list to the federal parliament.

‘Efforts have been made to frame new laws based on obligations arising from the government’s policy and programme, budget, periodic plan, sector-specific policies and international treaties,’ he said.

He outlined the government’s efforts to equip the judiciary and implement free legal aid in coordination with provincial and local levels.

According to the Ministry of Law, the Legislation Act has now come into force, and six regulations, five by-laws, three directives and seven work procedures have been registered with the ministry by various departments and agencies.

The ministry has appointed legal aid officers in 74 districts and is providing free legal assistance effectively.
