KATHMANDU: At least 43 people have died and 116 others been injured across the country since the monsoon season began in late May, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said in a report on Wednesday evening.

According to the NDRRMA, 569 incidents triggered by monsoon rains have also left 16 people missing.

Floods proved the deadliest, claiming 15 lives and injuring seven. Lightning strikes followed, killing 14 and injuring 95, while landslides accounted for 14 deaths, Xinhua reported.

“The loss is lower than last year, when 177 people lost their lives and 182 sustained injuries in the two months since the monsoon began,” the report said.

The monsoon season in Nepal typically lasts until early October.
