KATHMANDU: LeapFrog Technology, the US-based tech tycoon, has extended support to Zaap EV, a Nepal-based electric vehicle rental startup. The backing will provide battery-swappable two-wheelers to gig-economy workers in a bid for cleaner, more inclusive urban mobility.

Zaap EV’s mission to supply cost-effective, battery-swappable electric two-wheelers aligns with LeapFrog’s vision of sustainable growth in emerging markets. The strategic support is expected to empower delivery riders and freelancers with affordable mobility solutions that reduce both costs and carbon emissions.

“With this support, Zaap EV is poised to revolutionise short-distance commuting in cities such as Kathmandu by making green transport accessible and profitable for gig workers,” said Dr Sudeep Rauniar, Managing Director of Zaap EV.

LeapFrog’s involvement will boost Zaap’s operational scale and accelerate the deployment of battery-swapping infrastructure across Nepal. The company plans to roll out its first fleet of electric two-wheelers in mid-August, with subsequent expansion targeting all major urban centres.

The collaboration signals a strong endorsement of Nepal’s EV startup ecosystem and marks a promising step towards low-emission, gig-driven urban mobility in South Asia.
