Sherpa elected Nepal Mountaineering Association President

KATHMANDU: Phurba Gyaljen Sherpa has been elected president of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), an umbrella organisation of mountain tourism entrepreneurs.

According to the election committee, the vote count conducted this morning saw Sherpa defeat his rival, Kul Bahadur Gurung, by 342 votes to 288.

Ishwori Poudel has been elected senior vice president, Mingma Gyalbo Sherpa first vice president, Bodhraj Bhandari second vice president and Rajendra Lama general secretary. Chandan Thapa has been elected secretary, while Ngima Nurbu Sherpa and Sumi Lama tied in the vote for treasurer.

Madhav Kumar Dhamala, Kedar Neupane, Thupden Sherpa, Gokul Thapa, Mulal Gurung, Dendi Sherpa, Bikram Karki, Rinje Sherpa, Devendra Dangol, Diki Sherpa and Nisha Bhote have been elected to the new NMA executive committee.
