
KATHMANDU: Despite the establishment of numerous universities and colleges in the country, Nepali students continue to spend substantial sums on overseas study.
The Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal report, released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Sunday, shows that travel payments rose by 18.1% to Rs 223.72 billion in fiscal year 2024/25, of which Rs 138.48 billion was spent on education. In the previous year, these payments stood at Rs 189.43 billion and Rs 125.13 billion, respectively.
Nepal Rastra Bank reports that net services income remained in deficit at Rs 90.94 billion in 2024/25, compared with a deficit of Rs 55.86 billion in 2023/24. Within the services account, travel income increased by 7.7% to Rs 88.66 billion, up from Rs 82.33 billion in the previous year.
