KATHMANDU: The first centre for Chinese language and professional skills in Nepal was inaugurated on Thursday in the Kathmandu Valley to cultivate local talents who are proficient in Chinese and master electrical technologies.
Chinese education and power-related vocational skills training shall be combined to produce quality local professional, technical and management talents under the project initiated jointly by Zhengzhou Electric Power College in central China's Henan Province and the overseas business department of Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China.
As it has been operating in Nepal for nearly 40 years, the overseas business department has come to deeply understand the crucial role of local talents in business development, said Jiang Qixiao, the department's project manager in Nepal.
The combination of Chinese learning and vocational skills training at the newly-launched centre in the city of Lalitpur is a key measure to address the talent bottleneck, Jiang said at the opening ceremony.
Addressing the opening ceremony via video link, Tian Shili, a senior official from the Zhengzhou Electric Power College, voiced hope that the centre will become a platform for Nepali learners to learn Chinese, master skills, and realise their personal dreams, as well as a bond to help promote the localisation of projects, cultural exchanges and friendship between the countries and peoples.
The centre in Nepal, established jointly by a Chinese college and an enterprise on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, has opened up a new path for improving the employment competitiveness of locals in Nepal, Wang Xin, a counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, said at the opening ceremony.
A total of 35 centres for Chinese language and professional skills have been established in 25 countries since 2021, noted Yu Tianqi, deputy director of the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education.
Yu suggested that the centre in Nepal shall serve the needs of enterprises, help local development and cultural exchanges, and promote mutual learning between Chinese and Nepalese civilisations and friendship from generation to generation.
