JHAPA: Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, has demanded that non-resident Nepalis’ citizenship based on descent should be continued.
At a press conference held today in Birtamod by the Jhapa district committee of the RPP, he argued that citizenship on the basis of descent for Nepalis living abroad should be continued to connect them to Nepal’s prosperity.
He said, “Nepal exists outside of Nepal also. The Nepalis living abroad are outside the geographical boundary of Nepal. They also care about Nepal.”
RPP chair Lingden stated that the provision preventing dual citizenship in the amendment to the Citizenship Act, following the political change in 2006, has significantly affected Nepali citizens of descent who have gone abroad to earn, study, and seek employment.
