KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki visited the National Trauma Centre on Saturday to assess the condition of young people injured during the recent Gen Z demonstrations and currently receiving treatment there.
During the visit, Centre Chief Dr Badri Rijal informed the Prime Minister that 36 patients had been admitted to the facility, six in the intensive care unit (ICU) and two in a critical condition. He added that although some patients have been scheduled for surgery, immediate procedures may not be possible owing to the severity of their injuries.
A total of 51 people died, while thousands sustained injuries during the two-day nationwide anti-corruption demonstrations, including in the Kathmandu Valley.
The demonstrations led to the formation of an interim government under Sushila Karki’s leadership and the subsequent dissolution of parliament, with a mandate to hold elections to the House of Representatives on March 5, 2026.
