
KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows rose by 29.9% to Rs 177.41 billion in the first month of current fiscal year 2025/26, following a 17.7% increase to Rs 136.60 billion in the same period last year, according to the latest macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Monday.
In US dollar terms, remittance receipts rose 25.0% to 1.27 billion, compared with a 15.8% rise in the first month of current fiscal year.
Net secondary income, or net transfers, was Rs 193.85 billion, up from Rs 148.08 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier.
Likewise, first-time approvals for foreign employment for Nepali workers stood at 44,466, against 36,928 in the same period of the previous year. Re-entry approvals rose to 23,644 from 22,647.
The figures underline the sustained role of remittances and overseas employment in strengthening Nepal’s external sector.
