KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kul Man Ghising and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava held a meeting on Sunday.

During the meeting at the Ministry, Ambassador Srivastava congratulated the newly appointed minister and extended his best wishes for the term.

Discussion also covered bilateral collaboration on energy, water resources and irrigation, and the progress of projects being constructed with Indian assistance, the minister’s secretariat said.

Topics at the meeting included the bilateral mechanism on energy and water resources, the supply of water from the Mahakali Irrigation Phase III canal to Nepal, a review of progress on the Rahughat Hydropower Project being constructed with Indian support, construction of the Inaruwa–Purniya and New Lamki–Bareli 400 kV interstate transmission lines, and additional energy exports from Nepal to India.

Minister Ghising said the Government of Nepal had been asked to permit additional electricity exports to India as domestic consumption was expected to decline with the closure of industries during the Dashain and Tihar festivals.

Ambassador Srivastava said India was ready to extend support to Nepal for reconstruction of infrastructure damaged during the Gen-Z protests.

The meeting was also attended by Ministry Secretary Sarita Dawadi, joint secretaries Chiranjibi Chataut and Sandip Kumar Dev, and a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
