KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines resumed flights to Rara Airport in Mugu District today after a four-month hiatus.
The government-owned carrier had previously been operating thrice-weekly services until last April/May.
The suspension forced tourists and other passengers visiting Rara Lake, Nepal’s largest lake, to face travel hardships, although residents of Mugu had felt relieved when services were running.
Nabin Kumar Bista, Head of Nepal Airlines Rara Airport office, said flights have restarted today.
Passenger Sumitra Rawal, travelling to Nepalgunj for treatment, said, “If there were regular flights, people in remote areas would get relief.”
Bista added that, despite various reasons for the disruption, he will now take the initiative to make services regular.
Summit Air, Tara Air, Sita Air and Nepal Airlines all operate flights to Rara Airport.
