DHARAN (Sunsari): Following continuous rainfall, the water level of the Saptakoshi River has risen sharply, prompting authorities to open all 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage as a precautionary measure.

According to data recorded at 8:00 AM today, the water flow at the Koshi Barrage reached 330,060 cubic metres per second, leading to the opening of 50 gates. By 8:15 AM, with the flow exceeding 335,360 cubic metres per second, all 56 gates were opened, confirmed Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra.

Authorities are maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of the river's water level. “Due to the continuous rise, a red light warning has been activated at the Koshi Barrage, and red flags have been hoisted to signal risk,” said CDO Mishra.

The Saptakoshi Water Measurement Control Room has confirmed that the water level has crossed the danger mark. As a result, residents in low-lying areas of Udayapur and Sunsari have been advised to remain on high alert for potential flooding.

CDO Mishra urged the public, especially those residing near the riverbanks, to stay informed and prepared as the situation develops.
