KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed austerity in public expenditure. She has ordered the effective and results‑oriented utilisation of public funds to ensure prosperity, development, good governance, equality and a corruption‑free administrative system entrusted by the youth generation.

The directive came during a meeting of ministers and secretaries held today to review progress since the formation of the current government, according to the prime minister’s secretariat. PM Karki told subordinate bodies to be results-oriented in accordance with the spirit and sentiment of September 8 and 9 movement.

“All ministries must prepare and implement a blueprint so that all citizens can directly experience significant improvements in controlling corruption, maintaining good governance and effective service delivery,” PM Karki said. “Engage in necessary dialogue, facilitation and cooperation to boost the morale of the private sector and improve the industrial environment.”

Giving a 14‑point directive, including measures to increase public confidence in the government and boost the morale of civil servants and security personnel, she emphasised the need to make the transfer and promotion system of employees organised, predictable, transparent and fair.

“Immediately prepare a report of the damage and loss to structures damaged during the movement and formulate a policy and action plan for reconstruction,” PM Karki said. “To prevent disruption of service delivery due to damage to physical structures, machinery, tools and equipment, immediately arrange for purchase or alternative service delivery.”

The prime minister said she is continuously engaging in dialogue with the Election Commission, security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to create an environment for elections, and directed them to perform their respective responsibilities efficiently for pre‑election preparations. She reviewed the implementation of the annual work plan of all ministries and suggested initiating necessary efforts to rise above traditional styles and establish new standards.

Directing arrangements for meetings of all councils and committees, including the inter‑province council under her chairmanship, the prime minister also called for a discussion on diplomatic affairs in the presence of newly appointed ministers and province chief ministers.

She directed effective human resource management in the provinces and improved coordination among the three levels of government, saying, “To guarantee the rule of law, all forms of criminal activities must be controlled. Do not compromise on this.”

Prime Minister Karki directed the immediate commencement of abolishing, merging and transferring unnecessary structures to make public administration leaner, more efficient and highly productive.
