KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel today launched free internet services at the Gongabu-based New Bus Park.
Minister Kharel said providing free internet services in key locations across the Kathmandu Valley was his first decision on assuming office on September 22. He announced that free internet is now available at 19 locations in the valley, including the New Bus Park, and pledged to extend the service to the capitals of all seven provinces.
"The government is focused on expanding internet facilities in remote areas as well," he said, adding that Darchula, Bajhang, Jajarkot and Tilicho Base Camp in Manang already have access to the internet. He said improving internet quality in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Rautahat, Myagdi, and Baitadi is a government priority.
Radhika Aryal, secretary at the ministry, and Bhupendra Bhandari, chairperson of Nepal Telecommunications Authority, were among those present at the launch.
