KATHMANDU: Embark UnMath is set to bring the Global Math Debate League (GMDL) to Nepal for the first time in January 2026, with Britannica Education joining as the event’s knowledge partner.

The GMDL aims to reframe mathematics as a universal language of thought and dialogue, rather than merely as numbers and formulae. The programme encourages students to use mathematics to express ideas, demonstrate creativity, engage in discussion and apply concepts to everyday life.

More than 5,000 students from schools across Nepal are expected to participate in the competition, which will be held in three stages: a screening round, regional selection, and a national final.

Britannica Education will support the league by providing curriculum-aligned digital resources and professional development for teachers. The organisation says it integrates 250 years of trusted knowledge into modern tools to help keep students engaged and build critical thinking skills, while giving teachers back time through ready-made resources and district-level support.

"The Global Math Debate League is about seeing mathematics as more than calculations," said Divesh Bathija, co‑founder of Embark UnMath. "Through this league, students get to debate ideas, challenge themselves, and see mathematics come alive in completely new ways."

Founded in 2012, UnMath School is described as a pioneering educational organisation that redefines how mathematics is experienced in schools. Embark UnMath is an extension of that mission, offering experiential programmes such as the Global Math Debate League, Math Marathon and Space Math to learners of all ages.
