KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) organised a walkathon in Kathmandu on Saturday to mark its diamond jubilee, part of a series of events this year to celebrate the chamber’s 75th anniversary.

The walkathon, organised by the Education and Sports Committee in coordination with the Diamond Jubilee Main Ceremony Committee, started from Chamber Bhawan in Jamal and concluded at Jhonchhe after passing through Ranipokhari, Nepal Woolhouse, Janabahal, Makhan and Durbar Square.

Approximately 300 people took part in the event, which was led by Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, Chairman of the Diamond Jubilee Main Ceremony Committee and former president of the NCC. Participants included NCC officials, executive committee members and reputed athletes from the private sector.

Addressing the programme, Chairman Shrestha said various events are being held this year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NCC, the oldest institution representing the private sector, and that such programmes are intended to boost the morale of entrepreneurs and businesspeople in the current situation.

On the occasion, NCC President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal said parading through various locations in Kathmandu during the walkathon is significant for the promotion of historical sites. Rupak Rajbanshi, Chairperson of the NCC’s Education and Sports Committee, thanked the participants.

Nepal Chamber of Commerce, the first representative body of the private sector active for 75 years, will use its diamond jubilee to highlight activities undertaken for the nation’s economic prosperity and to enhance the private sector’s business capacity.
