President Paudel, PM Karki extend Christmas greetings

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes on the occasion of Christmas, a festival of the Christian community, today. He said he hopes the festival will inspire everyone to foster peace, love and harmony among Nepalis.

The Head of State said the festival would help strengthen national unity in Nepal, which is a country of diversity, adding that festivals like Christmas also foster cultural identity and religious faith. He reminded people that tolerance lies within a community of diverse faiths.

Christians celebrate Christmas (December 25) amid fanfare every year, and various programmes are organised to observe Christmas Day in Nepal, the President said in his message.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has also extended her best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of Christmas, the major festival of the Christian community.

Taking to social media, the Prime Minister conveyed her Christmas greetings, writing, 'May this festival, which carries the message of love, peace, compassion and goodwill, inspire all of us to further enhance mutual understanding, coexistence and bonding by strengthening the collective norms of humanity,' she said.

She added that festivals like Christmas, celebrated in a country that is a confluence of diverse religions, languages and cultures, have contributed to further consolidating national unity amid diversity, and she wished all Nepalis peace, happiness, prosperity and progress.

Christians across the world, including in Nepal, are celebrating Christmas today.
