Govt fund collects over Rs 133m for restoration after Gen-Z protest damage

KATHMANDU: More than Rs 133.56 million has been collected so far in a government fund set up to restore physical property damaged during the arson and vandalism that occurred during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9.

According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, Tanka Prasad Pandeya, as of this morning, Rs 133,565,000 has been deposited in the fund.

Siddhartha Premier Insurance today contributed Rs 10.1 million to the fund under its institutional social responsibility initiative. Last week, MetLife Nepal deposited Rs 2.5 million, while Oriental Insurance contributed Rs 2 million earlier.

The fund was established in the aftermath of the Gen Z movement and called on the public, private sector, non‑resident Nepalis, development partners and donor agencies to assist. The government has also provided provisions allowing contributors to deduct or claim expenses when calculating their taxable income for the current fiscal year 2025/26.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund can deposit the amount into Rastriya Banijya Bank account number 1960100102070004.
