Department of Commerce Fines Two Plastic Firms for Consumer Law Violations

KATHMANDU: Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has imposed fines on two plastic manufacturing companies after detecting irregularities during inspections in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu.

Manjushree Plastic Industries, located in Changunarayan-2, Bhaktapur, was penalised Rs 200,000, while Shree Polythene and Plastic Industries Pvt. Ltd. of Kathmandu was fined Rs 50,000.

Officials said the measures were taken under relevant provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, following on-site checks at 17 companies in the two districts. In addition to the fines, 15 other firms received directives to correct minor compliance issues.

The department emphasised that these inspections form part of ongoing efforts, coordinated with local authorities and consumer rights groups, to ensure businesses adhere to consumer protection standards.
