SHENZHEN: Nanshan District in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) of more than 1 trillion yuan in 2025, local officials said. The figure places the small district among the country’s largest county‑level economies.

Li Xiaoning, head of the district government, told the local People’s Congress on Tuesday that Nanshan — home to technology firms including Tencent and DJI — saw GDP rise from 652.7 billion yuan in 2020 to in excess of 1 trillion yuan in 2025.

The figure makes Nanshan the nation’s first county‑level economy to surpass the 1 trillion yuan mark and attain a scale more commonly associated with larger administrative units. The district covers a land area roughly one‑tenth that of Shenzhen, to which it is subordinate.

A pioneer of China’s reform and opening up, Nanshan has emerged as a leading hub for technological innovation and advanced manufacturing within the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area.
