Remittance inflows surge 39.1 pc to Rs 1,062.93bn in six months: NRB

KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows increased 39.1% to Rs 1,062.93 billion in the first six months of fiscal year 2025/26 compared to a growth of 4.2% in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Monday.

During mid‑December to mid‑January (Poush month), remittance inflows stood at Rs 192.62 billion. In the same period of the previous year, such inflows were Rs 122.44 billion.

In US dollar terms, remittance inflows rose 32.3% to $7.50 billion in the review period compared to an increase of 2.7% a year earlier.

Net secondary income (net transfer) reached Rs 1,168.02 billion in the review period, up from Rs 833.86 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The number of Nepali workers taking first‑time approval for foreign employment stood at 206,807, while those taking approval for renewed entry numbered 194,733 in the review period. In the same period of the previous year, the figures were 230,439 for first‑time approvals and 162,628 for renewals, respectively.
