KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepal Gold Silver Gem and Jewellery Associations (FNGSGJA) on Monday formally inaugurated a business help desk aimed at supporting and promoting the gold, silver and jewellery sector. The desk will provide information, awareness and training on relevant laws, regulations and business practices.

The help desk was opened as part of FNGSGJA’s 13th anniversary celebrations and was formally inaugurated by chief guest Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Ishwor Karki. Speaking at the ceremony, AIGP Karki warned entrepreneurs to remain vigilant against rising technology‑enabled crime, saying entrepreneurs "need to be more alert and aware, as criminal incidents occurring through the use of technology have been increasing recently."

Likewise, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Khadka, Chief of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, attended as a special guest and voiced support for the initiative. He said he was confident the help desk "would be effective and helpful regarding the solution of various business‑related problems, crime control, and security matters."

FNGSGJA President Kishan Sunar outlined the services the desk will offer, including legal and accounting advice, guidance on regulatory arrangements, and assistance in resolving business disputes. Sunar said the initiative is intended to strengthen coordination and trust between entrepreneurs and stakeholder bodies and to make the sector ‘more organised, transparent, and dignified.’

The federation listed the main objectives of the help desk as mediation and grievance hearing between consumers, entrepreneurs and artisans; coordination with security agencies and promotion of business security; facilitation on revenue, tax, administration and customs matters; provision of legal aid and consultation; monitoring, discipline and evaluation; and business awareness, training and promotion.

FNGSGJA said it is committed to operating the help desk continuously to protect entrepreneurs’ rights and interests, improve business practices and create a safer trading environment for those working in the gold, silver and jewellery industries.
