Kanchanpur: Commercial farmers in Kanchanpur have received a significant boost after the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Kanchanpur rolled out a 50% government grant aimed at increasing agricultural production and improving farmers’ income.
The support has been provided under the ‘one local level, one agricultural produce’ scheme, which encourages commercial farming by utilising local resources and strengths. According to Agriculture Publicity Director Hari Prasad Paneru, the Centre has been assisting farmers not only with financial grants but also with irrigation facilities, farming tools, training, technical consultation and market access.
From a total budget of Rs 4 million, half-cost grants have been distributed to selected farmers in Krishnapur Municipality. Beneficiaries were chosen from 40 farmer groups and cooperatives, mainly engaged in commercial vegetable farming. Alongside the grant, farmers have received essential inputs and equipment to enhance productivity.
Officials say the initiative is designed to help farmers shift from subsistence agriculture to market-oriented commercial production, ensuring sustainable income opportunities.
Local farmer Prem Bahadur Dagaura said the scheme has reduced production costs while increasing returns. “We received support for seeds and marketing, which has helped us become more self-reliant,” he said.
With continued technical backing and financial support, the Centre expects the programme to strengthen the district’s agricultural economy and encourage more farmers to adopt commercial farming practices.
