Kathmandu: United Cement Limited has contributed Rs 500,000 towards the treatment of Sabitra Bhandari, captain of Nepal’s national women’s football team, following a serious knee injury.
The financial assistance was extended after a public appeal was made to support Bhandari’s medical care. She has been undergoing rehabilitation for the past seven weeks and remains sidelined from competitive football.
In a statement, the company described Bhandari as a source of national pride who has played a key role in promoting Nepali women’s football internationally. It added that supporting athletes during difficult periods is part of the private sector’s social responsibility.
The contribution has been viewed as a positive step in boosting player morale and encouraging greater corporate involvement in sports development.
