Kathmandu: Tourist vehicles will be allowed to operate during the House of Representatives election on 5 March, but only after obtaining prior approval at least two days in advance.
As per the ‘Procedure Related to Operation of Vehicles–2082’ issued by the Election Commission, the provision has been introduced to facilitate tourists, as international flights will continue regularly on polling day.
Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said operators must secure permission from the concerned District Administration Office and the Election Commission in Kathmandu before operating their vehicles.
The procedure also includes measures to manage highway traffic in a systematic manner. Vehicles providing essential services, those belonging to diplomatic missions and the National Human Rights Commission will be permitted to operate. Other vehicles may also run, subject to obtaining the necessary permit.
Authorities stated that the arrangement is aimed at ensuring smooth transportation while maintaining security and order during the election.
